At times it can be more effective to keep your mouth shut and act instead of using your words to discipline your child. Words can sometimes go in one ear and out the other. 🙂
Putting it into practice:
1. Let your child know in advance what you are going to do and when. I.E. “If you and your brother are going to be fighting in the car, I will not continue driving”.
2. Make sure they understand what you will do by asking what their understanding is.
3. Follow through by acting kindly and firmly without saying a word. (even 1 word can begin a power struggle and engagement).
